I was having one of those serious talks with my wife today about life in general. We were winding down our chat when my wife looked at me and said "I'm shocked you are buying new speakers" :o. I was kind taken aback and I asked her why she was shocked? She reminded me that last month after I bought a Rythmik F12SE that I was done buying new audio gear. I paused and looked at her and said you really didn't believe me when I said that did you :?? She said well yes I did, so I told her next time I say that just totally disregard what I say :D.

Luckily my wife is the best as she trys to understand why I would possibly need new speakers. I started to explain why and she said thats OK as long as you are happy I'm happy :D. Moral of the story is never say you are done buying audio gear even if you actually think you are done. It never ends :D:!

Luckily, I've trained my GF as over the past 5 years, she's seen me go through 4-5 pairs.  But I told her the Salk HT2-TL's that I will be getting shortly, amortized over 20 years, are like $0.56 per day.  I said after you hear them once, you'd be glad to drop your loose change in a can to hear those babies each day compared to everything else you've heard!

My wife is getting nervous I think...she's wondering why I haven't purchased anything lately.  I just said, "I'm really happy with what I have now".  I love her!!!

I've made the mistake of saying I was done buying audio gear, but never will again. ;)

My wife and I were talking about our upcoming anniversary this month, and she polked fun at me that I have had as many pairs of speakers as years we will have been married (7 speakers in 7 years).  I knew it was a good amount, but I didn't realize it was one for every year (broken down), nor did I think anyone was keeping track besides me.  Actually, I've had the Salk SongTower's for about 2 years now; the longest I've kept any speaker.  So I guess it would be more like 7 speakers in 5 years.  :o  Is that too many?

As my Dad used to say:

There are 2 kinds of liars in this world: those that say they quit; and those that say they never did

In the 1980 years I know a retired court judge that said to his wife he had receive the equips as free gift from a local store, just to tell friends Dr.x are using such new amp in his house.

Amazing was when his wife enter this audio store doors and ask to the owner if he had gift some equips to his husband.
The shop owner and we, some (3) audio fanatics confirm to the suspicious lady this fairytale story and the shop wallet offered coffee and cookies to calm down the madam.
Great times was those,

I'd like to think I'm getting pretty close, but then I always get surprised...

So what were the prior 6 speakers Nuance?

Sony - Don't remember the model, but they had 15" woofers. :)
Infinity Primus 360
Canton Ergo 900's
Rocket 550 MKII
Vandersteen 2CE Sig's
Rocket 850 Sig's

Those are just the tower's I've owned, by the way.  If you count the speakers I borrowed or the bookshelf speakers I went through...well, lets just say my wife has been very tolerable.

I think being an audiophile is a disease! :icon_lol:  I want to break the have to have it phobia but I have not been successful yet. :duh:  However, my system just keeps sounding better and better.  Vera continues to shake her head but keeps loving me!

Once you fall in love with a great pair of speakers, the other components in your system start to reveal their flaws.  This is what happened to me, and why I've slowly upgraded everything, piece by piece.  I only have the preamp left, then I'm don... :D

I just mentioned the title of this thread to my wife, before I even read the content. She just got a good belly-laugh out of it. No comments from her, but it did sound a little hysterical to me at the time.

Never forget, they know you better than you know yourself sometimes. If she questions something like this then she's probably just pushing your buttons or doing some wishful thinking.

I purchased a new pair of speakers in November of last year.  Due to the new speakers I have purchased a new amp and new source.  The only things I have not changed are the cords and the preamp.  Yes, I tell myself I am done and at the same time telling myself good luck on that! :duh:

Ken

PS.  I don't tell Vera I am done purchasing new gear because I know I will hear, "Yeah, Right."

Soundscapes or something similar are in my future, but I don't see myself replacing anything for the next 5 years or so.  I'm very happy with the Salk and AVA equipment I have.   I will be adding on though  :eyebrows:

I'm currently a single electrical engineer, so I can spend whatever I want, whenever I want, but I'm sure that will eventually change
