I can tell you from personal experience what is better.  I got a 6BSST lightly used (as I could not find a local dealer with one in stock or on the floor) about 6+ years back.  It is of course a 3-channel version of the 4BSST.  I had Proceed amps (HPA on the front 3 channels) prior to that.  I had Thiel 7.2s at the time, a speaker very sensitive to changes to anything in the playback chain.  I put the 6BSST on the front 3 channels.  I liked it (I had owned a 4BST several years before and in my room with those speakers it probably was about the minimum power I needed so that's why I was a bit concerned as to whether the SST would be a bit better) and decided to try the 14BSST.  Again, I could not find it at a local dealer and bought a lightly used on.  I had a friend over when we put it in place and it was smoother overall and we noticed the increased control over the bass response.

:o  :!:

Absolutely incredible; I am truly at a loss for words.

Take care vegasdave...
Too sad for words indeed. It's a shame there is no "ignore user" option on this board.

This argument has come up so many ways in so may threads it's getting tired.  From pure physics or from common sense if you prefer, how could it possibly make sense to dedicate 300 wps into 8 ohms to the high pass and low pass respectively and have it sound better than 600 watts dynamically available to the entire frequency range.  We all know the lower frequencies are far more demanding than the highs.  So what happens when a demanding low frequency passage requires 400 watts and you have 300 of them available only to the high pass?  I guess the woofers would starve, no?

Actually, I know a few people that have quite successfully done external Active Bi-amping. In general about half the power is needed for frequencies above 300 Hz and half is needed below 300 Hz. The crossover must be external and occur before the power amp and the internal crossovers of the speakers must be bypassed. Now one power amp is sending only mid and upper frequency material into the speakers mid range and tweeters. The other amp will send only low frequency material to the woofers. The electronics in the speaker will run cooler and you can run your speakers longer and louder without meltdown.

But you are right. When most people would say they are bi-amping they are really doing a passive bi-amp and there isn't much value in the passive method.

You know it would almost be worth a return trip to Vegas and CES to meet Dave. :)

Well. I can't see how you can *hate* some electronics... unless you somehow got shafted, like in having repeated failures and the manufacturer failed to honor warranty or something like that. But then you are actually hating the company, not the box.

Nap.

I dunno, ask them. They're a bunch of assholes.

Greetings Anonamemouse  :D

I was reading your post and I had forgotten about the “ignore user” option. At one time, I played Battlezone by Activision online and it did employ this feature. It was a very useful option because every now and then, an individual would attempt to ruin the game for everyone else by making exceptionally rude comments.

It is very disheartening at times to read comments made by individuals on some forums that are either offensive or a blatant attempt to incite other forum participants. At times, I even catch myself actually “sighing“ after reading some of these comments. Unfortunately, an end result of this type of most unwelcome behaviour may result in other forum members been painted by the same brush (metaphorically speaking of course) by a new prospective forum member or an individual just “dropping in for a visit.”

Be well…

The truth of the matter is, you and Mr. 'mouse attacked me, and I gave you a taste of your own medicine. End of story.

No, you just have a problem with someone having a different opinion.

Agreed.  Staying on topic would be appreciated instead of tainting a thread initiated by a fellow AC member who has since passed.  Perhaps folks can find another place to argue.

RIP Jim.

Jim died of a heart attack in April, 2006 at the age of 48.  He was a good friend and loved to see music put a smile on someone's face, regardless of equipment preference.

Audio doesn't have to be about what sounds right or wrong, but what works for you.

This is really scary. I am 48 now! Its so sad to reading comments from people that are no longer here....
I never owned B&W or Classé...almost bought a Classè amp, but settled for a Coda 10.5 instead about 10 years ago.
