Cheap cable/power cord management....
« on: 29 Apr 2010, 03:36 pm »
I had some left over sump-pump tubing from my recent home improvement project, and was going to throw the left overs away, then the idea hit me.

24 feet of tubing for about $12 is 50 cents a foot. I used about 6" for this cord. Pretty cheap and does the job.

Slick Wayner. Simple, effective, & inexpensive. Better get your patent before some monster comes along and lays claim to the idea.   :D

Well, publishing it on the internet already gives me some copyright protection.

Now Wayner, you know good and well that coiling up that power cable will induce eddy currents that will destroy your sound!!!!!!!!

Funny I was shown this using toilet tissue tubes to store extension cords. My friend told me his grandmother had shown him.

How did you get the cord to match the tubing, color?  I had to double take after I read your post.  Good stuff!

The external wire coil wrapped around the power cord "might" act as a high frequency RFI filter and actually make the sound better.

Note that I said "might", then again, it might not.

Although the photo looks like wire wrapped around the power cord (much like how factories wrap cords on small appliances, etc.), in reality it is a piece of plastic/rubber flex tubing.

It's 1 1/4" sump pump tubing.

Yes, I had to look twice, I thought that was cord too but it is tubing the same color as the cord  :o.
