>>So what do you guys get there? Depth + detail or just depth?<<

My recallection of Werd's system on the song 'All along the Watchtower'. I mentioned instrument seperation, which on my system was more homogenized making it difficult to distinguise what was going on with different instruments.

I mentioned to Werd how the sax sounded like a bass sax whereas on mine the sax is more alto, and imaged to the left. The piano imaged center which seem to project forward of the other instruments. I could clearly discern the guitar picking on the left which I could not discern on my stereo.

So I would say the image had depth & wide and height. However the AZ were shy on bass frequencies. 8)

[1] yes, since you have less soundstage depth (due to speakers distance to wall);  for :rock: this is a Good Thing (TM) as this is what you get at concerts too - in your face wall of sound; for listening to chamber music ensembles or female jazz vocals it might be a little flat though. You cannot have them both at same time so no need to  :bawl:

[2] ok, now I know what his system sounds like; some midbass boost (which helps the deep soundstage; this is how the Energys I mentioned before are pulling the trick too);

[3] which is not necessarily a bad thing, depends on what you listen to

Now I have a pretty good idea of what you guys had fun with, thanks!

Them's  :duel: words!! My soundstage is different, like the stage is right in front and I'm sitting in 2nd or 3rd row. Since I use an enhancer there is plenty of body, weight, height & slam.

Chamber music!? Am I missing something. :nono:

Something like this. You want to hear each instrument distinctly positioned in space, so you need soundstage depth. Otherwise they tend to collide in the same plane. BTW I remember some older model of B&W towers that were producing a perfectly flat soundstage, in the speaker's plane, no matter how you positioned them. Perfect for HT L/R fronts but iffy with something like this:

We were also listening to another Dave Matthews song 'Two Step' from The Gorge album. It's like 20 minutes long, and it was the song with the piano. :duh:

My SoundStage is capable of some serious depth, unfortunately my 56" Samsung pedestal will not let that happen. I am also in  need of some decent room treatments.

Those Energy's are completely diff approach and speaker config. The AZs are not comparable and do not sound the same. Unless you are personally familiar with the 14B it would be very hard to understand the difference between the 4B and 14B. Although the tonal character is exact the imaging is not, not even close. Big power out of both channels gets the sound behind you and translates into a nice fullroom  sound. Oddly this much easier to
achieve at lower volumes than concert spls i find.

Shouldn't the speakers be the same distance from the back wall?
