Bugle NAB eq set up
« on: 14 Apr 2010, 06:31 am »
Hello,

I want to build up a Bugle using NAB eq for a reel to reel machine.  I have the basic info on the curve points but I'm not sure how to apply it in Jim's eq calculator.  Could someone here please assist me in establishing the correct values?

Here is what I have so far:

Jim's Bugle eq calculator:

www.hagtech.com/equalization.html

From the MRL technical papers.  It lists the transisition frequencies as 50 and 3150 and the equivilant time constants as 3180 and 50.

http://home.comcast.net/~mrltapes/eqtable-from-smpte.pdf

Link that Doc posted on the Tape Project site.  In one of the paragraphs it states the NAB curve has only one break point.

Thank you,

Aaron

Thanks!

First of all, I can't be sure about anything I'll write further. My knowledge is based on slightly different terms.
The "Doc" article you have mentioned is about compensation circuit for different tape speeds, so it is not "one-breakpoint-suits-NAB".
I think in your case you should put 50 as Bass Pole, 500 as Bass Zero, 3150 as Treble Pole and "Ignore" at Treble Zero.
