This is amp was a special order version of the standard production Radii DPP-105 tube amp ordered by Wayne at Bolder Cables. Wayne ordered it with: Nichicon Caps, oversized transformers, Infinicap coupling caps, 10mm front panel, digital bias meter with separate bias controls for each tube, and upgraded input and output connectors. The retail price would have been $1700. The output stage of the amp is a paralleled set of push-pull EL-34s per channel, yielding about 75 watts per channel into 8 ohms. The amp weighs ~55 lbs.

I purchased this amp from Pez, the original owner, a few months ago. In his ad, he notes a mechanical hum coming from the power transformer (also pretty audible through high'ish efficiency speakers). I discovered the sources of the hum while testing the amp on my bench and have considerably reduced it --the amp still has a slight hum but is barely audible from a few feet away and is virtually silent through 94 dB sensitive speakers.

The amp is in 7/10 cosmetic condition with some of the valve labeling on the top of the amp having worn off, a couple of light scratches on the transformer covers (not through the paint), and I've left the blue tack Pez added to the back of the transformer to reduce the audibility of the hum.

Included with amp are two octets of EL-34s: JJ EL34 and Winged C EL-34. Several sets of input tubes (6BM8/ECL82) are included: Ei Yugo, Svetlana, Mullard, GE, and AWA Hawthorn. Also, a full set of Herbies tube dampers for the EL-34s and 6BM8s are included.

Asking $650 $575 OBO shipped. I will also consider trading for certain solid state amps or tube/solid state DACs.

I haven't received much interest in this amp. Is the price too high for a not very well known brand?

i don't think so, as i know this amp is made in the same factory where asl amps are made, and supposedly, the quality is at least as good, if not better.  i plugged it in pez's ad.  i suspect the issue w/the hum might be putting some folks off.

i don't need this, but i also don't need a custom homebrew hypex ucd180 amp i have, either, if you are interested in a trade.     the ucd180 amp is rated at 100wpc/80hms; 180wpc/4 ohms.  the parts cost alone is likely >$600.  i got it as partial trade for the speakers i am presently using; i have lousy pics of the amp, including innards, taken by the p.o., in my gallery somewhere.  it's yust a simple black box, ~17x12x3.25...

I'd forgotten that the amp is manufactured in the ASL plant --thanks for the reminder. I doubt many would find the hum objectionable (or even audible under normal use), but I'd rather be open about such issues.

I think people are just not aware about how excellent this piece is at any price. People are always saying "I want to get into tubes, but I don't want an amp that can only produce 25 watts because I needz me some p0wer!!!!" Well here it is. Lots of iron, lots of tubes = sonic bliss for most modern speakers.

You're telling me...

I've had lots of nibbles, but the amp is still available.
