Saturday vintage gathering
« on: 10 Aug 2010, 11:47 pm »
We will be having a little gathering this Saturday(starting at 12 noon) that will focus on 1950s and 1960s vintage audio. We will have some beef and chicken kebobs and sodas...if you could bring beverage of choice and a side , snack, or dessert, that would be great.

Upstairs we will have a 1959 JBL C36 setup with a tube integrated SET amp, and a mono 1956 JBL C40 with a Rauland EL84 PP tube integrated amp and an Ampex 600 RTR.

The main rig downstairs will be a set of 1963 KHorns, Marantz 8B amp, Citation V preamp. The second room setup will be a Scott 299C integrated with stereo EV Aristocrats, AR 3as, and Jensen Duettes.

A 1957 Klipsch shorthorn will hook up with a Heathkit mono integrated, and a 1969 Marantz Model 19 will exercise another set of JBL speakers.

And I forgot the Stromberg Carlson console from 1962. Now we're cooking!

Feel free to dress in vintage threads, and expect to see a few holy grail relics from the wayback machine.  8)

Sounds like a fun day Dave but unfortunately I'll be working. Thanks for the invite.

No problem, Tim. It's always good to put bread on the table.  :)

Would love to come but the social planner already has other things on the agenda.

Hope you have a great time.  Post some pics if you get a chance.

Yeah - kind of a bad mental picture of Bob in hip huggers and a halter top...  :peek:

Yikes! What a visual that is

I think my wife and I will drop by in the afternoon. We both have playing gigs in the early afternoon then we would love to stop in for a quick listen to the vintage gear. (and escape the heat in our apartment for a while)

Sounds like a good time. I would like to make it again but I'll be sanding and staining speakers most of the weekend.

Bob and Blackmore, I'll pm the info to you after dinner.

One of my friends asked if he could wear a 1950s kilt. Scary!  :icon_twisted:

Sorry Dave, I actually can't come. I just wanted to tease you about the dress code. My apologies about the miscommunication. Hope you guys have fun though. Pictures would be great. I've love to see the old equipment.
I've got half of a bone stock pair of Heathkit A-7 monoblocks. Would love to con the fellow out of the other side. Not sure the vintage, but I think it would be apropos for this event.

Bo, we are in southeastern south county, just inside the Missouri side from Illinois at 255.

Eclein, the "other" JBLs are an 002 setup in homemade cabinets of indeterminate engineering standard. They may get transplanted, but I haven't decided yet.

And Scott, the 1963 KHorns are almost at final tweeking. I have JBL 2470s and 2404s in the tophat, along with Martinelli horns, so they are coming together well. I just need a few good ears to provide some directed feedback.

We had a good smaller turnout, with Bob, Bill, Al, Steve, Kent, Bo and Lisa, Sam, Michael, and Chris making it down to the house.

Here are a few pics...
