rhythmik sub amps
« on: 1 Apr 2010, 11:22 am »
Hi all, more questions I'm afraid. I have now decided on the design for my ob's, I have a pair of 8" full range drivers and a pair of Eminence Alpha 15's. I think going active with the bass is my prefered route rather than low pass filters. I have been looking at Rhythmik plate amps and they do some specifically for ob. Maybe I'm being a numpty here but there are some questions I have. Will one amp do both drivers or do I need two. I see there are both left and right  rca inputs on the amp but is that only for sending both channels to one sub. Also there are rca outputs are these for daisy chaining a second sub or could they be used to connect to a power amp for the full range drivers.

That amp should be able to do both woofers in mono.  Most plate amps handle a 4 ohm load now.  That said, you may prefer 2 separate amps for stereo operation depending on how high they are crossed over.  Odds are, 2 would be better.  The question is by how much, and then is it worth the expense to you.

Have you modeled you baffles with the edge?  That will help you decide where to crossover MJK style.

Hi Dan, thanks for the reply, there is virtually no baffle to model as I am trying something similar to Bjorn's no baffle. Also I have no parameter information for the 8" full range drivers I have, although they sound stunning until I get them going and do some measurements I won't know what may need doing. I am thinking about getting a Behringer crossover for the bass in stereo and seeing how that goes first. The Behringer CX2310 will do high or low so I can make use of it elsewhere if it doesn't work out. Once I get started cutting the " baffle " I will post some pictures, all will then become clear.
