 I'm looking for a tonearm for a Bogen/Lenco idler project. Not looking for anything fancy (no Schick's at this point). Just something to try out the table.

I'd like it to have adjustable VTA but not a requirement.

It could be an old Sony. Sanyo, Marantz or Pioneer arm as long as it's mountable to a piece of wood.

Of course, I'd also be interested in anything higher end as well, like a Rega or AT or Linn arm.

Let me know what you've got.

BTW: I already have a Bogen arm that weighs a hundred pounds and can't be adjusted to track anything less than 5 grams.

Have you concider cherry arm from buyer on audiogon. I have 12" version so does my buddy. For the money - not bad.  Not bad at all.
I am not selling - just tossing ideas. 

Used SME 3009 or 3012 (various models) - used < $400. Nice vintage arm for vintage idler like Lenco etc.

Rega entery arm might also work. Nice cart like 103R or something from the SoundSmith stable and you are set with cool spinner.

to best an o-l or incognito-modded rega rb250, you have to spend silly money, imo.  if i didn't already have an extra modded o-l 250 (soon to be mounted on a rare empire 498), this one would have already been mine.

Thanks guys for the info.  I pulled an old Pioneer arm off a PL510a today and made a mock-up armboard for it.  shouold give me an idea of how the table will sound and then I'll decide on what REAL arm to buy.  The cherry arm looks tempting but for not too much more I could get a Jelco 9" arm - which do you suppose would be better?



I am already running a OL Rega 300 on my SOTA Sapphire.  It's a nice arm (looks exactly like the audiogon ad 300 mentioned).  I suppose I could have just dropped it into the Bogen table to try but I finally have it perfectly singing in the Sapphire and didn't want to mess with a good thing.

Still open to any offers on arms that anyone may have......

rega 300 is a different arm than rega 250.  if your arm looks like what's on agon, then it's a 250, not a 300.  o-l says that, while 300 may be better than 250 in stock form, that once modded, 250 will be better than even modded 1000, due to having bearing support on both sides of the arm.

I'm happy with my 300 but I'd really like to try something different.  My biggest peeve about the Rega is lack of VTA adjustment w/o aftermarket part like the Riggle.

I'm trying to build in a primitive VTA adjustment on the Pioneer arm I salvaged.  We'll see what happens.

Problem is this:  each of these requires a larger diameter hole than I currently have in my SOTA armboard.  And the armboard is composite/aluminum so re-drilling would not be easy without a drill press and the right bit (neither of which I have).  Otherwise I would have bought something like this some time ago.  I'm making do with appropriate sized washers.

These would of course work perfectly for my Lenco project.  But as I said I'd rather try something new and different - I like the Rega arm.
