Has anyone heard both of these players?  

I own Odyssey mono amps, Tempest pre, and Cary 303/200.  Speakers are NHT 2.5i.  I'm relatively happy with the sound, but I would like a little more bass, better midrange, and overall fuller sound.

I realize my speakers are probably the week link, but they're not going anywhere for a while due to the wife factor and the fact that I have the matching set of speakers for HT.

I'm wondering if the Jolida might be a good match for my system considering the sound qualities qualities I desire.  

The Cary is my first nice CDP, and I didn't audition any others.  I definately don't want to spend any more money.  I should be able to sell the Cary, buy a new Jolida, and have some money leftover.

What I don't like about my system now is that it's kind of dry, not full enough, sometimes hard on the top end, lacks a bit in the low end.  What I like about it is that it's detailed, imaging is good, and soundstage width is good.  Depth is pretty good also.

I like rock, alternative, jazz, hip hop.  Jazz and hip hop sound best in my system, and rock is the worst (thin sounding).

Does anyone have an opinion if the Jolida might be a good choice?  Is the Cary a lot better than the Jolida.  Again, the Cary is my first nice CDP, so I really don't know how good it really is, and how it compares to other CDPs.

Hi Pugs,

After reading what your current system consists of, i'd definitely have to say that your speakers are probably the weak link.

I'm not sure you are going to get much of an improvement by changing your cdp?  You really need to experiment to find out what part of your system is letting the rest down.

You could try perhaps ic's and speakers but i'm not sure they will make a huge difference for you.

I would have thought a cary cdp would be a fair bit better than a jolida cdp.

The Lorelei should fit the bill nicely.  Since you're a customer, maybe Kloss would give you a bit of a price break (like he does for system purchases with the Lorelei).

Oh man, don't say that   I want them, but until something great happens to my stock, it's not going to happen.  My wife has been extremely understanding my audio hobby.  I don't want to push her too far.

Hi Pugs,

Sounds like you need a couple of lessons on how to import new Hifi gear into your house without an argument

Firstly NEVER tell you wife the True cost of your purchase.  I usually tell my wife that the gear i purchased was at least half or a third of the actual purchase price.  You can even get the hifi dealer to doctor a receipt for you   .

Secondly you can tell your wife it was such a super deal that in the long term it will Save you Money.

Thirdly you can actually Try and hide the hifi purchase and not mention it.  If she doesn't check out your system she probably won't even notice something new.

Lastly you can actually Condition your wife to accept your hifi purchases.  I've gone threw steps 1 - 3 and now she just shakes her head at me   .

Anyway good luck and hope my advice helps and doesn't get you divorced.
