Eimacs?

Has anyone ever tried using an Eimac tube in an amp? Or even heard of an amp that uses Eimacs? They are apparently still producing tubes and make a triode capable of 400 watts!

(I know, I know! A 400 watt SET would be BLASPHEMY!)

I've heard Chris Brady's Eimac 75TL amps as part of his system and they sound great. One of his buddies however uses 4 of the 450TL tubes. He uses almost 5kV on the power supply, at least that was his setup last time I spoke with him.

I'm starting to bread board one and collecting parts at the moment.
Here's my development schematic. Going Direct coupled with stacked power supplies and Parafeed output... An Eimac 304TL driven with an EML 20B, looking to get around 30 to 40 watts.

Sweet! Is this your design Jeff?

I ask about these tubes because a local seller has been advertising a pair of 4-250a tubes for what seems like a reasonable price - $85. While I'm not experienced enough as yet to design anything I am trying to learn and this could be a very neat future project. Thoughts?

Post #78 in the link has the current larger schematic. Can't post a larger one on this forum..

NOT for the beginer and needles to say , the voltage WILL KILL you if you are not careful.
and note, it's a work in progress and may be changed at any time. It is also incomplete as it does not show the 866a rectifier tube start up delay circuit.... very important with Mecury Vapor rectifiers. The 5852 rectifier on the lower supply takes 45 seconds to light up, so it more-or-less has it's own "built-in" delay.
