Great Service From ModWright
« on: 27 May 2009, 06:05 pm »
I wanted to give kudo's to ModWright for outstanding service.

I've been auditioning the new ModWright amp on loan from my local dealer and had been using my Wadia CD player fed directly into the amp to acclerate break-in.  Unfortunately, a channel on the CD player went down and took one channel of the amp with it.      After a call to Dan, he graciously offered to repair at no charge.  Including shipping back and forth, everything was taken care of in one week.  Mind you I haven't purchased the amp yet, I'm just auditioning.

Just thought folks would want to know...

Thank you.  Woudl you mind also sharing your impressions of the amp in your system?  I am sure that people would be interested.

BTW, the damage to our amp, as a result of the damaged source mentioned above, was limited to a single blown rail fuse.  We replaced both rail fuses, checked everything else out and found no other problems.  This is thanks to our extensive and proprietary Silent Protection Circuitry.  Our protection circuits all operate outside of the signal path, monitoring fault conditions, QUICKLY engaging and shutting down either the channel in question or the entire amp on fault conditions.

Sincerely,

Dan W.

Dan,

As you know I am auditioning amps for my new pair of Daedalus Ulysses speakers.  (And yes they are as good as everyone says...thanks Lou!)  I hate to be boring, but I really can't add much to what others have said, especially with respect to synergy with the Daedalus.

As other have alluded, there is definitely a fairly long break-in.   I would definitely agree with Lou's assessment that inserting the ModWright amp into my system felt like adding a subwoofer.   And it's not just bass quantity, the quality is excellent and not a bit bloated.  The amp definitely shows off the Ulysses' excellent dynamic range (something I think that is often missing in stereo systems).  As others have posted, the upper frequencies are definitely the last to come in...

I am waiting to hear that last bit of break in before making more definitive comments.  I can say that I have tried a few other very good amplifiers and to date, nothing has bettered the ModWright, including amps that retail for nearly 4x as much.

This will have to do for now.

Thanks again for the great customer service!

Thank you for sharing this.  My Ulysses speakers are breaking in nicely now and I can attest to Lou's genius with this design.  There is a very special synergy between Lou's speakers and our amp.  The Daedalus speakers are definitely on the list of a growing number of speakers that have proven to sound exceptional with our amp.

What sets Lou's speakers apart from others, regardless of synergy with our amp, is their extremely high level of value and performance for the investment.  I would say that the Ulysses are easily as good as anything I have heard at min. 2x the price.

Jazdoc, I would appreciate knowing, even if you want to PM me, which other amps that you have compared the KWA 150 to and their price-points.  I believe that it would be beneficial for others to have a point of reference as to the quality and value of our new amp, compared to the competition.

RE break-in, I am glad that you mention this, because it is true.  The combination of high-quality Lundahl input transformers and ModWright Teflon and MOIP custom capacitors in both signal and power supply decoupling circuits all take some time to break in.  The highs will at first sound a bit forward.  This changes with break in and things level out into a very natural and engaging presentation.

As for the bass response, there is no substitute for CURRENT and good power supply design.  I believe that our internal total dual mono design, including dual mono power transformers and power supplies, as well as fully dual-differential circuit throughout, all contribute to the whole.  Alan Kimmel is a genius and his SSMS - Solid State Music Stage circuit utilized in this and future MWI amps is pure brilliant engineering!

Thanks!

Just want to chime in here and thank Dan and gang for a job well done.  My Transporter upgrade experience came with many challenges, all outside of our control, and mostly problematic for Dan.

Anyways, I have seldom, if ever, seen this level of customer service.  Dan went way out of his way to make sure I had the best product possible.

I'm posting this because I feel this is the standard operating procedure at Modwright and not just my experience.

Thank you for that.  I appreciate the acknowledgement of what I feel paramount to who MWI is.  We always strive to produce not only the highest performance and value of products, but an equally high level of service.

Sincerely,

Dan W.

Rather than start another thread, I found this one that is exactly where my comments belong.

I have been a Modwright customer for a while now, and an enthusiast for just a little bit shorter than that.  Dan's commitment to customer satisfaction is exemplary, and should be commended again and again.  It is very rare to find a business owner that listens so closely to his customers requests and concerns, as well as one that pays such close attention to all the details.  So, really this is just a big public THANK YOU to Dan, for being Dan.

ModWright has the best customer service I've ever experienced in audio.  Dan stands behind his product whether he's trying to sell it to you, he's already sold it to you, or you bought it from someone else.

Dan has been patient, generous, and easily available to answer any questions I have. I have owned 4 Modwright pieces over the last 4 years and feel like buying from Dan provides more value than buying preowned equipment from Audiogon because you are guaranteed a killer product that has incredibly high value/price ratio and impeccable service. Thank you for everything Dan! Keep up the great work.

Another thumbs up for Dan's service.  My newly purchased Modwright Transporter developed a problem with one of its displays.  Dan had me send the equipment back to him and he coordinated the repair with Logitech.  It was returned to me operating perfectly.

Thanks, Dan, for all your help and effort in taking care of this issue for me.

I hate to post twice in this thread but I am seriously grateful to Dan for his unending patience with me. I very proudly own the 9.0 signature and Modwright transporter and have been peppering Dan with inane questions for the last 2 weeks. All I get back are prompt and helpful responses. The guy is an amazing designer, gives great service and value in his products. Thank you again!
P.S.- When are we going to see a Modwright tube amp? :)

Five or six years ago Dan posted a request for a Sony SCD 2000ES to modify. He wanted to experiment with a new modification and offered the mod for the cost of the parts. I sent him mine. While it was gone we decided to have a party so I bought a second one, figuring to use it at my office when the other came back from Dan. A few days later Dan sent my player back. He called and asked how I liked it. I told him it sounded great (it did). He was delighted but said that he didn't plan to offer the mod-I think that it was just too costly considering the cost of the player and too much trouble. I told him about buying the second player and how I was disappointed that I could not get it modded as well. He said "oh just send it to me and I will do it too". I don't remember what he charged me but it wasn't a lot more than the first one had been. I sent it to him and he did the mod, only he was still experimenting and did something a little different to the second player (probably damped the chassis, it seemed a little heavier) and it sounded even better than the first one. I never called him back, but I'll bet that if I had he would have told me to send the first one back to him again so that he could make it sound as good as the second. I think that he just wants his customers to be happy, like Ed at the Hornshoppe, Louis at Omega, Dusty at CIA, and so many other small business people in this industry. That's just who he is and why he is so great to deal with.
