Just wondering. What is this thingy on the back of my 2b-lp?

In case anyone is interested in the answer:

"What you have there is called a DAC. Digital Audio Controller. Used mostly
by mobile recording/radio stations that needed remote control of the audio
input/output. This was a hardwired arrangement."
