Dogs tend to be extemely personal food - I have been known to gobble a couple of plain ones!

I have definite preferences. I like thinner dogs, not the big jumbo ones. I like each bite to have a good mix of dog and bun. I also prefer the new england style buns, although they're hard to get where I live now.

I'm not too picky about all-beef. I've had good dogs and bad dogs that were all-beef, or a mixture. I've also had things like tofu or turkey hot dogs that were good. Different, but still good.

I would say that 90% of the time I go for a dog with brown mustard. I'd estimate maybe another 7% of the time I have brown mustard and relish. Then the remaining 3 or so percent I have other toppings.

I've never cared for plain dogs, or ketchup on them.

I think steamed hot dogs are the best. They're also good on the grill, with boiled coming in at 3rd place for me.

Most definitely on the thinner / normal wieners.  What is a new england style bun?

I still maintain tofu wieners are sacrilegious.  :argue:

They're what I always had as a kid. They just seem "better" somehow. :)

Sabrett is the official NYC vendors as Lonewolf pointed out. Dominics Blue truck on Woodhaven Blvd. is the best around. They have Sabrett make a recipe for them and use 6 to a pound. Just brown mustard and onions or kraut or both. The buns are steamed and the dogs cooked in water with beef stock.
 So yu want to know how to make NY stlyle onions. Slice the onions thin crescent shaped. Put in pot with a little canola oil and cook until translucent. Add paprika to taste with red pepper and salt and plain tomatoe sauce[ hunts or equal] to cover onions, bring to a boil and simmer until the onions become SOFT and the sauce thickens. Your in. ENJOY!

  Ah Ha a" Nedick" copy cat. Any NYers remember Nedicksin the subway ? Those buns the press they used to flaten and toat the buns ORANGEAIDE The fattiest unhealthy dogs of all time and pobably the tastiest.  Now its Papaya king the worst.

Oh yeah, I've seen those before, can't remember what they call them out
here (western Canada) but they ain't that popular around these parts.

They've evidently been using that kind of bun in New England for 70 years or more. I just asked my Mom and that's the kind of bun she remembers as a kid too.
