Using Speakon connector in sealed sub
« on: 10 Jan 2010, 12:53 am »
Appreciate thoughts on if its OK to use Speakon connectors in a sealed sub. My concern is whether these connectors will leak air that will cause a problem. My un-scientific test of blowing on the ends leads me to believe they are not air tight and do leak a small amount.

I'm using the Neutrik NL4MP-ST in the cabinet with the NL4FX cable unit. The subs are based on Danny's SW-12-08 servo drivers.

I do think I could coat the inside of the cabinet connector with Silicone to prevent leakage -- any thoughts?

I would seal them up with hot melt glue on the sub side after soldering connections.

I just coated the flange with silicon and it works fine.

I did'nt use anything on mine, I drilled a clearance hole, and surface mounted the flange.  I seem to remember an o-ring gasket on the mounting side of the flange, but its a fuzzy memory.  In any event, I can detect no leakage around the flange on my sub.
