So I am listening to some music two nights ago, late. The system had been on for several hours and at the end of a CSNY CD, where there is some odd fade-out of guitars, I notice the speakers are humming, almost ringing. It didn't stop when the music was over, yikes.
I quickly go over and shut off the old HK amp. Nope, that wasn't it, still humming through the cones. I am thinking that the brand new QSC amp is bad, or going bad. It is not a 60hz hum, I am familar with that. This is a higher frequency hum, almost like a test tone, getting close to a ringing sound but too low.
Remembering zybar's experience I quickly, can you say panic, shut everything down and power off. I just stand there, thinking @#$^^@.
So what's wrong ? I dunno. I wait a few minutes and turn everything back on. All is well, as matter of fact, I swear the system sounds even better, fuller, richer with more projection and depth, than it ever has before.
Since then I have had no additional problems or glitches. I really have no idea what happened. Just a WAG is that there is some way of getting the caps in these speakers to do some strange stuff, somehow saturate and feedback or something, I dunno. It was both speakers by the way, and could well have been the amp, but it is a brand new QSC with 350 wpc and it hasn't had any trouble since.
