Burning dual layer DVDs.

Does anyone know how to do this? Any software to recommend? NIN has just released a compilation DVD via torrent that I've downloaded, but now I need to burn it to disc and am clueless.

Thanks.

Is your question about needed software or hardware?  Most modern DVD burners can burn to dl media.  Same with the software side.

I had to burn my first DL disc the other day and tried a couple of sample discs I had laying around.  Both were memorex, and both gave me write errors.  A few different forum threads all recommended Verbatim, and sure enough they burnt the image perfectly.

Oh, and yes, most drives will simply recognize dual layer discs (and conversely reject single layer DVD-R if given too big of a file or folder).

On a Windows machine, Image Burn is a nice, simple freeware program.

On a Mac, Finder -> Applications -> Utilities -> Disk Utility (should be burn tab there; I would guess that dual layer burning should be incorporated into that feature and probably be automatically selected if you put a dual layer blank in the drive).

Hi, I do this from time to time with a combination of external firewire LaCie burner (recently replaced the drive but kept the case, Firewire logic etc.) and Roxio Toast 7.

One of the options is to burn from an image and that would apply here. When setting up for the burn, you choose the disc type: CD-R, DVD-R or DVD-R/DL. Everything else just happens.

Very good combination: easy to use, has all the features I could think of and some I will never use and burns discs reliably (although I probably haven't done more than 10 DL).

I would suspect you could also do this from OSX specific tools, I haven't tried and can;t tell you how.

Thanks all. Found a nice free app called.........Burn. Worked like a champ after specifying the default media type (8.5 GB DVD).

I've found that if you try to burn a DL at anything over 2.4x write errors become a big problem.
