Icon Mobile USB problem?
« on: 10 Dec 2009, 12:01 pm »
Dear all.

After the terriffic experience with Nuforce Icon, I bought a Mobile to use in the office and on the bus.
On thing that bugs me, is the fact that if I connect it to any of my Win7 machines thats been sleeping overnight, I get some "stuttering" klicks and pops, no matter the source software or bitrate on the files (streams, FLACs in Foobar and so on).
If I restart the machine, with the Mobile attatched, it works like a dream again.
I don not feel that I have any other USB related problems on the computers that run W7.

ANy ideas?

I have win 7 but didn't encounter this problem. Do you have the headphones connecting to the Icon Mobile (ie is it still on)?  You can try to connect/disconnect the headphones connector from Icon Mobile to reset it instead of restarting the PC.

I encountered a different problem (seems related to your problem) today: I left the Icon Mobile connected to my laptop for a while (with headphones connected) and some noise appeared. After disconnecting and then connecting the headphones, the noise went away.  I probably encountered this behavior 2 or 3 times since using Icon Mobile.  This look like a rare behavior, with a simple and quick fix, we are not going to look into any solution.

Jason, thx for your swift answer.

I must make you dissapointed tough.
I've now tried the Mobile on three different computers, all with W7, and one with the old XpSP3 OS.
On all W7 machines (one HP, one Fujitsu and one HP laptop), the Mobile will stutter if the computer has been allowed to go down in "sleep" mode. This is regardless of the Mobile beeing connected or not to the computer at all times.
A reset of the Mobile does not help, but a restart of the computers do.
On the XP machine, it work ok even after letting the computer go down in sleep.

So, the solution is to shut all computers down befor using the mobile.

Hi,
I haven't installed Win 7, but googling around, I found that there could be new settings on audio provided by Win 7, and the default value may not work properly.

Try the following:

Set the Sampling rate, say to 44.1kHz instead of 'Auto'

On a new tab 'Communication' or settings related to 'sleep', Audio volume by default is to be reduced 80%, change it back to 'do nothing':

1. Got "Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Devices and Printers" or in Win7 "Devices and Printers"
2. Right click on the "USB Audio" icon
3. Select "Sound Settings"
4. Select the "Communications Tab"
5. Change "reduce the volume of other sounds by 80%" to "Do nothing"

Casey, the change of volume setting did the trick! No more stuttering!
Just want to add, that my Mobile is identified as "C-media USB Headphone set" in the devices and printers menu.
