Why would you spend all this money upgrading the CAOW1 when you could spend the money on the HT1 with a nicer midwoofer, the SEAS Excel...

EDIT: never mind, didn't realize the $1200 price difference. More than I thought...

I'm sure Jim can build any kind of cabinet you want, and with any kind of terminals, wiring, and crossover components.  I'm pretty sure he already uses Mills resistors and inductors that are at least on the same level with the Perfect Lays.   And I think the cabinet is already rounded on all sides, and it's certainly well braced.  Black Hole would not be a problem.  I personally wouldn't spend anything extra on caps or wiring, but there's no law against it.  Jim would use the same crossover schematic. The little .06 inductor is not a big deal either way.  For some reason the high pass filter I used on the CA0W1 resulted in a peak above 14 kHz, so I flattened it out a little, and improved the phase tracking in the process.  In any event, I'm working on a slightly improved version of the CA0W1 (with an updated Seas woofer), so I may or may not end up using the mini inductor.  Assuming it really is improved, Jim would use the new crossover and woofer.

Hi Dennis, thanks for your reply. I am definitely interested in the new design. Which Seas woofer did you decide to use? Also, when do you think the new version will become available?

I'll be using the ER15 reed cone driver, which is almost identical to the older CA15.  It's a little easier to work with below the crossover point, but I'm not expecting it to sound substantially better.  I'm sure the difference will be quite subtle.  I'm not sure whether I'll get it done before the New Year.  It may be the first of my 2010 resolutions.
