VMPS SDE v Homebrew

I am thinking of changing my OXO to SDE. From what I can figure the difference between the SDE and a stock DCX2496 is Brian's "Curve" for the speakers but the cost is over twice as much.
Why no just get a DCX and figure out the curve yourself?

I THINK the cost is not only for the DCX, but also for the midrange & tweeter network that is still there. That way, people can just bi-amp. With the network removed, you would have to tri-amp.
(Someone please correct me if I'm wrong)
