I've been watching this 6-part, 6-hour new documentary on WWII on Smithsonian HD channel, soon to be on National Geographic Channel.  I can't believe how gripping, interesting, emotional, and educational this is turning out to be.  Of all the WWII documentaries I've seen, this one seems particularly well-done, with incredible video footages from both sides, and most of all, the storyline and twists/turns are way beyond any Hollywood movie I've seen of late.  Highly recommended, and if you have school-age children, a MUST IMO  :thumb:

Thanks for the tip.

History Channel just finished a week-long "WWII in HD" program as told by a dozen people who lived through it.  Very touching and well worth watching.  A lot of colorized B&W, but much better than usual fare.

Highly recommended.

I watched the whole series, it was well done as you say. The World at War series is comparable to that.

If you're interested in WWII the documentary Secrets of WWII is interesting. I also have Restricted Flims of WWII. This documentary is mostly newsreels, which are kinda tacky and perhaps not worth buying unless you're hardcore war nut. But it's far more realistic in the portrayal of war in that war is a lot of hard work and boring, except for the guys on the frontline doing the fighting.

I got to see a couple episodes on the History channel. Well done. There was a series many years ago called Victory at Sea. It also was very good. The number of men who lost their lives during WWII is sobering. Civilian casualties as well.

Speaking of documentiraris (speillin due to enbreation, that too, I'm pretty sure), I saw just tonite a documentary about the attacks at Mumbai not long ago.  The lone surviving terrorist said his father had sold him into the clan and that their misson was to kill everbody they could.  They trained him for 3 months.  Said his reward was the kingdom.  Bet that guy couldn't even read.  That's sokme sad shit there.
