Bryston and 901's
« on: 27 Nov 2009, 07:09 pm »
Hi Folks

I have always had a bit of a soft spot for these speaks..... I havent heard them in decades. I remember everyone had them back in the 70's. Has anyone ever used them with a heavy a big bryston amp? I remember they used to be rated with an unlimited power but i see now they are rated at about 250 watts.  Just curious

Werd, I have these around the pool they are the  Bose 501 in black

They are rated at 100 watts

and another pic

I drive these 4 Bose with a small Nad set up.
I should wake them up with my Bryston Gear

I'll see if I can find a pic that drives these speakers out side around the Pool

At least with the 901's, Dr. Bose correctly acknowledged that a 4" full range speaker could seriously benefit from active equalization.

But their particular implementation of an active equalizer was just too noisy for me.

I'd say a Bryston amp would "wake up" just about any speaker, unless the speaker has some serious flaws.

Hi,

MOST of the Bose range will actually be fine, one of the "features" they have is that the speakers can get wet and be fine........

This is the case for most of the commercial range.

They do have some specific "outdoor" speakers.

I have to say that "Soundtube" external speakers were my choice above the Bose outdoor speaker.......The speakers that you could place plantson top of so not seen as speakers..........

Hope thats of help - I would not run Bryston amps on anything outside, the risk of a short in the system is to high in my opinion...........A rodent could chew through the cable, or even a pet, water ingress etc..... to high a risk for my bryston beauties...........

Andy.

PS - Nice ppol & Garden.

Food for thought.  Even if the amp has protection circuitry, in electronics there is the saying:  "A transistor protected by a fast acting fuse will protect the fuse by blowing first".

Andy thanks for the kind remarks.

Just to let you know I would not power my bose outside with my Bryston Gear.

Thanks for the Info
