Fiberglass insulation with or w/o foil?
« on: 27 Nov 2009, 02:03 am »
I read a post here about trying out fiberglass insulation such as R-20 before purchasing expensive treatments. Before I drop $1,000 I would like to give this a whirl. Lowes has R30 insulation that I could try as I don't care about aesthetics. Should I get the foil backed or just plain rolls?

If you're looking for broadband bass control only and don't require upper mid and high frequency absorption, either is fine though the faced will be considerably more expensive.

Also, for bass control with less dense material like standard wall insulation, additional thickness will be required.  R19 would be a minimum.

Thanks Bryan. I am starting with bass control and I will add reflection control next. Would floor to ceiling R30 be a decent start for 250HZ and below? I have significant problems below 35Hz.
