Torus strategy (James)?
« on: 20 Nov 2009, 02:39 am »
I am interested in adding AC isolation to my system, and the Torus units seem well built, well received, and . . . expensive.

Would an RM20 be sufficient for a B14, CD player, and preamp?  How about an RM15?

Or is is preferable to use separate units for the amp and other gear?  If so, what would be the minimum size for a B14 by itself?

If separate units are the better choice, should I start with the low-power gear or the power amp?

Hi Mike,

An RM 15 would be fine with a 14B and source gear.

James;

It's Fall (rain)/Winter(rain) here = Boredom! That means I'm getting ready to spend $$ on things I should not with $$ I may not have.  So, what's the price on a CS 15?  That should be the last step in the upgrade process.

Good for you buddy - the economy needs all the help it can get!
$2000 suggested retail for the CS15

The RM15 and CS15 are the same price according to the updated website.  The only difference in the two is the RM has the 19" rack mountable faceplate and the CS the new 17" consumer faceplate.  They both weigh in at 42 pounds down from the 76lbs. of the prior issue of the RM15. According to Henry Pajooman at Torus a new way of assembling the power supply accounts for most of the weight loss.  I think I'll have my doctor reassemble my power supply in the same manner.  It would be great to lose 34 lbs.!
