Need parts source for Cornet2
« on: 19 Nov 2009, 02:59 pm »
Newbie here, am going to build a C2 w/ the help of my electronic savy neighbor, but am having troubles completing JH's parts list.

Digikey is several months back-ordered on the CAP 470UF 10V (C205), and a month for the 47uF 450V (C103,C201, C207).
They are also out of fuses (part #F2419) and "Terminals" (part #1285K-ND).

AES doesn't recognize "Screw #10, and I get the message "Item Not Found".   I'd rather use black screws anyway on the black chassis, so if someone knows the length/pitch I can find them elsewhere.

I want to be sure to order the right replacement part, so am looking for a source and part#

Thanks

Jim has specified Panasonic , which are very good, low DCR parts but Nichicon Muse or HE are also good. This link has Nichicon models and their features http://nichicon-us.com/english/products/alm_mini/list_f.htm

I think Mouser and Newark also stock Panasonic.

The screw is simply a #10 size for the chassis ground, could be a 10-24 or 10-32, the most common sizes, get'm anywhere.

The Board mounted RCAs are another story, perhaps Jim has an alternative that fits but if you Google the Manufacturer part number you may find an alterante source

Thinking back 8 years ago when I tried to build a Foreplay pre-amp, the help I needed wasn't so much looking for answers as places to find them. Those of us with some experience shouldn't forget that.

I hope I'm not condescending but what I did, and you will be able to do, is go back to Digikey, look up the part parameters and search just a few. In the case of the 47uF cap: aluminum/radial/through-hole/47uF/450V/in-stock. Several choices, best being a Panasonic with the same lead spacing and overall length. Plus 8000 hours at 105 degrees C. A very good cap. Part number P13653-ND

The  470uF part #493-1269-ND is in stock.

Using the same method for the 'terminals', I went to connectors, quick-connect, then male/through-hole/.187 wide/.25 high/in-stock. Again, there were several, 2 with a 10 minimum quantity, part #1212-STK-ND

So theere you are, the parts you need and the method for finding substitutes, which if you stick with this as we all hope you do, you will use often.

Best,
Bill

Thanks Bill, you hit the nail right on the head.  And I actually got there on my own.  Soon after I posted  I Found everything I needed between AES and Digi except for the terminals (1285K-ND)

Now trying to decide on tubes to start out with.

Board arrived today, too so I am going to buy an iron tomorrow.

Thanks for your input and suggestions, I'm sure I'll be back shortly.
