Well, vinyl is on its way in!

The "old man" hooked me up with one of his turntables, a Technics direct drive unit with an Ortofon TM14 cartridge.  I just ordered an Audio Technica phono preamp which is a very well reviewed budget phono preamp.

Here in Kalamazoo, MI we have some decent record shops and I will be a frequent visitor.  I can't wait to hear some of my favorites on vinyl.  If it turns out well I can see some upgrades in my future.  Out with the new and in with the old!

Record companies are begining to see the potential again with vinyl. It answers their pirating woes. They need to just start marketing them again. It wouldnt be too hard as they do sound better but unfortunately are lot less convenient.

Seems as though your question has been answered because I have been able to buy at least 70% of new music on vinyl as soon as it is released on CD!!! I was a little surprised at this move but pleased as well! I much prefer the sound!

However they also realise that vinyl is also easily recorded through USB Phonboxes like the one Pro_Ject sells and I own!

'Sounds better' is a very subjective perception. Let's not start that debate again. :nono:

I was told by one gentlemen that when he was searching for an amp he tried the $18,000.00 Forget the brand ,I believe it was the Aire ,Not sure of the spelling, he compared it with the Bryston 7B sst non sq version, he felt it was about the same but for a whole lot less.

1oldguy,

I'll bet those big Brystons could really bring my Dyns to life!

There's B&W speakers and then there's B&W SPEAKERS!  It looks as if you have the latter.  How do the 7B SSTs work with those?

I have got to scrape up some cash for my next upgrade.  One nice thing though about owning brands like Bryston, Krell, Levinson, Mac, etc, is that they maintain decent resale value.  I don't mean to offend anyone but guys are buying these Chinese amps for hefty sums and the resale on them is horrible.  At least I know that I have $1300.00-$1400.00 in the bank with mine.  It almost seems as if their has been a rebound in market value of the 300 iL 400xi since the introduction of the new Chinese made Krell S300.  Besides Bryston 7B SSTs I would also be interested in the Krell FPB 350cx amplifier.  I am a bit worried though what that class A monster would do to the electric bill though. :green:  "Upgrading" for me is a tough call as I would have to buy the prospective item in order to compare it to what I currently have.  I was able to compare the Krell to quite a number of some of the supposed "finest" integrated under $2500.00 and some pretty good separates as well, yet the budget Krell sits here today.  It does have some fine attributes.  The build quality is exemplary, it has a very wide soundstage, excellent articulation, dynamics, neutrality and of course bass.  I think that if someone likes the Bryston sound than the Krell sound is probably in their ballpark as well.  Neither are of much interest to tube lovers and it probably boils down to best bang-for-the-buck.

Following up on my previous posts, I made a phone call to Krell and was propmtly called back by their COO, Walt Schneider.  He was very courteous gave me a lot of information and offered me a plant tour if I was ever in the area.

Bryston is great bang for the buck, imo.
