Why do Nasa & other private companys, that launch satelites & probes that remain functioning in orbit for > 20 yrs., avoid issues, or is this strictly an audiophile phenomena?

Maybe because they've always mounted their electronics with some kind of isolation/suspension system, maybe even similar to Solid Tech's Discs of Silence?   ;)

Steve

I can understand the effect of vibrations on a scanning/rotating media and the requirement for isolation under these conditions. But I am very sceptical on vibration issues related to solid state amplifiers for home audio systems. I used to work on avionics (electronic) systems from high performance aircraft to helicopters (want to talk about vibration, lets talk helicopters :o). Some of the avionics equipment did utilize isolation pads while other equipment did not.

Be well?

I never meant to imply that NASA was glitch free. Aborted missions & other disasters  more than attest to that. The point that I was making was that too much is made of vibrations. The chopper example certainly attests to that. The point that I was trying to make is that a good deal of audio lore is based on solutions to nonexistant audible issues. Were we talking about tube amps, I'm willing to concede that microphonics & airborne vibrations could cause an issue. One of the factors that ought be figured into the design & subsequent pricing of SS amps is resistance to cat feet & other miniscule vibrations.

So whats Next ?????

Believe it or not, the RD-3 demag. works like magic. I use it on all my CDs and cables. Yeah, yeah, ya... I know it sound like hocus pocus but it definately works. Sound stage opens up, brings back the details, bass tighten ups just to name a few.
