This is strictly for HT for my mom.  She does not want big speakers.

I have assembled the following items:

Denon AVR 789

Subwoofer

Center and 4 Surrounds

Total for this would be $556.33 shipped.   Can you help me find a better deal?  I do want HDMI switching.

Does Mom really need a sub?
The mains will go to 100, that's probably going to be "enough", unless your Mom is a bass freak. Not that I'm passing judgment or sterotyping your Mother, mind you. I'm just thinking of my Mom. Can't see her wanting or needing a sub.

Otherwise, it looks good to me Rim.

I know you're not trying to rattle the walls, but 100Hz bottom end (and who knows how many dB down at that frequency) might be a little "thin" of a sound for even the most modest Home Theatre setups.  If the Main speakers had a little larger "woofer" than 3-3/4", you could go sub-less, but with these I would go with the sub.

I put together something similar for a friend and his wife, same surround speakers and almost the same woofer (10"). The front speakers were a pair of small Polk Monitor 50 towers. The sound is quite OK, the woofer is a bit woolly for music but works fine with HT.

What you picked for your Mom looks good, by the way what type of movies does your Mom watch? Mine liked action movies with big explosions.

I ordered the package with the sub.  She definitely does not want to rattle the walls but she likes visually rich movies with fun plots, like the Raiders of the Lost Ark and Romancing the Stone.  She liked Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon too since she already knew the plot and history.  She will watch Ice Age, Shrek and Nemo with her granddaughter.  She doesn't like "realistic" violence.

Thanks guys.
