Apple TV question
« on: 11 Oct 2009, 01:19 am »
Curious whether anyone has had this problem with Apple TV.  I like to take the optical digital out through the DACs in either my ModWright TP or my Red Wine Isabella/Isabellina (just nicer sound when watching movies than the DAC in the Apple TV).

Anyway, the sound works fine on most things, including previews, etc.  But, when I watch an HD movie, through both DACs (Modwright TP, RWA), the sound turns into something like a machine gun and I have to turn it off right away.  I then take the analog out of the Apple TV and it's fine.

Is there something about the sample rate of an HD movie that the DAC's can't handle?  Any other ideas?  Thanks!

Could be the HD movie channel digi signal is dolby digital or DTS, and not PCM that either DAC can decode?

Yes, that is precisely what is happening.
