I work at a highly-regarded engineering university, and as such I have managed to convert  students from the "digital is the ONLY way to hear music" syndrome to running out an buying a turntable, but today I got the surprise of my life.

One kid came over to help me with something and I flipped on a Dire Straits HDCD on my MG-16R system (with subs).  Thought he'd be impressed, and in less than 10 seconds the kid said:

"yeah, but it is not as good as vinyl!".

Didn't know whether to strangle him or hug the little S.O.B.

Sorry to burst your bubble Mr. Brick but the fact remains, analog is taught to, not discovered by today's youth.

Yeah, but then he started ranting about his peers who tell him to go to Vintage Vinyl in the Delmar Loop, and he said "they're nuts!  Euclid Records has a better selection and much lower prices!"

Where DID this kid come from?  Can't be one of ours, he ain't that good looking.
