Hi All,

It's all too much! Looking at my hard drive, I have the following:

2009 Stereo Remasters
2009 Mono Remasters
1987 CD's
1982 Mobile Fidelity Box- (Dr. Ebbetts)
1982 Japanese Red Vinyl Mono- Not Complete
Plus assorted odds and ends (Hamburg, rare unreleased albums, etc.)

For a total of 77 albums!  All are on my WD 500GB hard drive (nearly full) and also backed up on a Drobo.

I'm thinking of weeding some out. My first thought is the 1987 CDs and the Japanese Monos. Any ideas?

Get to listening and let your ears do the sorting ;)

I just have the Ebbetts Blue Box, and I'm pretty happy with that.

The good Doctor did some nice work for sure. I vastly prefer the MOFI box to the '87 CDs. I have the U.K. Blue Box on vinyl, which is quite nice too.  :thumb:

It's a sickness, I tell you. I wonder what you have that I am missing.

Yeah all that, and I have the Capitol Volumes too.  And a few other of Doc's nuggets (monos and otherwise).  I'm deleting the 87's at least, and maybe a couple others, but always have them as backup.   :)

Put it all on hard drives! I would be nice to pull up ANY Beatles song and also compare different versions. Of course, the hard drives will need to be in a PC or Network Attached Storage. You could use a big USB drive, but I personaly wouldn't unless you had to.

The Westen Digital Caviar Green 1TB is now about $80. This is the "green" version of the drive, less power consumption and slightly less performance (plenty of performance for this use). The new 2TB version is currently $215 but it will drop in price as always.

I have a similar problem. So I left all the albums/files on my HD, but put some of them outside the "music" folder I've defined in most of the software I own as the "library" location. That way, I still have convenient access to them if I want to compare etc, but I don't have to scroll through them, under day to day circumstances, and they don't come up in "random" playback.

I moved the 87 CD's out and the various earlier mono versions I own, as it's pretty clear to me that the 2009 versions are going to be my "default listening" set instead of these.  I heard secondhand that Dr. Ebbetts was quoted as saying the remasters make his Beatles efforts superflous.

Am I the only person who can't stand the Beatles?  I have zero Beatles albums on my hard drive (well, my wife has a Paul McCartney album, post-Beatles -- might I say horrible?).  I admire the Beatles' song writing and musicianship, but I've heard the songs so many times, I simply cannot listen to them.  It's the same way with Led Zeppelin -- I have zero albums from them.

Probably not.

Luckily, there are plenty of choices out there for you to listen to.
