New camera bag
« on: 16 Oct 2009, 03:56 am »
I got this new camera bag for carrying my D90 w/18-200 VR lens with my Canon HV30 camcorder in a nice case on a waist belt. The belt is very thick and padded for long term comfort and it never needs adjusting. VERY high quality engineering and quality.

I will not use this on all occasions, but when in tourist mode I think it will be ideal for my needs. I can quickly stick my D90 in the pouch face-down and pull out the camcoder. Also I can carry a prime lens without any additional items on the belt. Amazing quality.

This is a picture from Ken Rockwells review - this is a D300, I will have a D90 and the HV30 instead of the 2nd zoom lens.

From the Think Tank site

It also comes with a great shoulder strap with a detachable no-slip pad, a card wallet, a waterproof cover

I like bumbags for camera gear, as you can easily swoish it around to the front or side and put things in or out and also change lenses in it. I use mine with a shoulder strap as well, to help hold it up and so that I don't have to overtighten it.

As you said!

I got to work this bag out a little today at the dog park with my 2 dogs. I used the shoulder strap and rotated it from front to back so I took off the no-slip attachment on the shoulder strap. It worked fine. I was able to get into my vehicle with the bag buckled on, but decided to take it off so I didn't have to fish the seatbelt around to buckle it. It is very comfortable and smooth to rotate from front to back, as advertised.

I will say that this bag is heavier than you would think. Not uncomfortable at all, but it weighs a couple of pounds. This is due to the over-engineered construction and materials. With the strap on and your gear inside, it is not too heavy but has some real heft as yuou would expect for a DSLR with zoom, and a smallish camcorder.

As I said it is very well engineered - there is absolutely no skimping in materials or construction. There are an abundance of "secret" pockets for things like cards, caps, filters, remote shutter, and even the tethered waterproof cover.

It is very rugged - it feels very much like a back support harness that you would wear in a warehouse. THe belt is very wide so that it does not cut into your waist...also, the belt does not slip once you have adjusted it.

This is a pro waist bag - there are no compromises, and I am sure I could use it comfortably all day long if needed. There are times I would use a backpack (when I want more than just camera gear, i.e. laptop and books, etc.), and there are times when I would just hand carry my D90 with 18-200 VR lens. For several hours of dedicated photography/videography (which I do about once a month it seems), like at an event, a museum, or a botanical garden, this is the perfect fit.
