Best Curtains for sound absorbtion
« on: 20 Mar 2010, 02:35 pm »
Just moved into a house and have a very nice media room in our daylight basement.  Problem is one wall has a 6' sliding glass door and 8' window.  The house has some some curtains that appear to be a cotton material that is slightly loose weave as it can be somewhat seen through when room is well lit.  I close the blinds during critical listening and can tell the difference without the reflections from the glass.

Curious if I replace the curtains, if there is a specific material one should use that would be good?

Thanks,
Mike

Thick velour, twice as wide as the window, so will drape to 50%.

In terms of weight you want at least 18oz/sq yd, thick velour is even better if your budget stretches.

Heavy velour. Not inexpensive but effective.
