Poll: Which female RCA's? And why?
« on: 30 Dec 2003, 09:40 pm »
All:

By the end of the week, I want to replace the wire on the audio PC, and get better RCA's.  I got some wire that I think will work well, but what RCA jacks should I order?  Why?

Any opinions?  I looked at some old posts on AA about it, but I am not really finding a concensus.

Thanks!

I use this copy of a Neglex design that I first ran across about 15 years ago. MCM part no. CN00508 or use this link to phono socket-panel at http://mcm.newark.com/NewarkWebCommerce/mcm/en_US/support/search/searchResults.jsp?action=0&First=0&QText=phono+socket-panel&x=22&y=9  It has very low capacitance and grips the center pin on a rca plug
with tuning fork type clamp. The pin is inserted between the tines. The
distance between the hot conductor center pin clamp and the ground
is relatively large compared to other designs and this keeps the capacitance the jack has low, and minimises the effect of the insulating
materials separating the conductive parts of the jack. They also appear to sound good. Cost is $1.49 in nickel plating and $2.49 in gold plating.
I belive the WBT has a similar internal clamp and is available in Cu.
If it was cost no object they might sound better, if their capacitance is as low as the the MCM part. I needed 12 jacks for my buffer and my budget woudn't
support this level of expense. Good luck.
