^^^  sure.  but, what's got me twisted now is how Mike's getting album art without an Apple account.  I couldn't get album art through iTunes without the account (at least, a few years ago, haven't tried to get around it since then).  I stand corrected (thanks Mike), I guess you don't need to have an account anymore.  Good deal.  Maybe they opened it up when they dropped the DRM...  I know that I was pissed and reluctant to give the info in the first place (though my worries have been unfounded; no charges (knock on wood)).

Cheers,
Greg

This has been a learning experience. I'm rooting around in corners of iTunes settings I don't usually mess with, and having to think about Mac stuff I don't usually have to think about.

I find it interesting that the box to check for album art is under Preferences > Store, while the box for CD track names is under Preferences > General. That totally hangs with Nels' comment.

And I just thought of something. I'll go through my little experiment again tomorrow on a different Mac of mine. I suspect I'll get a different result.

Grrrr...

It appears the system does indeed work as it should.

I guess. Interesting.

I do not have an iTunes account. However, I have purchased software for my iPod Touch. That means a credit card number was given.

So, the machine I have at home that my iPod is tethered to gets "rights."

My machine at work somehow gets "rights." I haven't figured out the connection. I don't plug my iPod into it, and I don't give any personal info, etc. when I do OS installs.

However, when I went to a machine that is not mine, and has not been tied to anyone else with any sort of related iTunes-ish account, an artwork download attempt created a pop-up informing me that I need to have an iTunes account.

Sorry Greg, apparently things have not gotten any better.

My apologies to all for creating confusion.

Mike

No worries, Mike.  Sweet that you've got "rights" on two of your machines, and only one that was actually tethered to a credit card account...   After all it is not that hard to find or scan album art on your own...  just very convenient when it is done automatically.

A side note:  after/during ripping around 2000 CDs into iTunes I came across several that had either no artwork or the album art was incorrect.  I used a place called Discogs for some of it (decent music resource), made my own scans for some more, and eventually found that a simple google image search of the album name was the most efficient way to get the missing artwork.  iTunes album art comes in at 600x600, while Amazon and most other web sources are 500x500 or less, and there are some very HiRez album art sources out there but unless you are displaying it on a 50" LCD (or plasma), medium Rez should be just fine (and it takes up less memory on your iPod).

Cheers,
Greg

If you bought software at the ApStore you should have an Itunes account AFAIK (i don't have an iPod or Touch, did set up an account so i could download artwork). Artwork is still a bit scarce, but it has only become a featuure for a short time. I have been scanning my own missing artwork. Once you have it in iTunes you can upload it to the iTunes picture database and share it with the world.
