Tomorrow is the day. My Ultimate 70 is scheduled to be delivered. I purchase a functioning Super 70i on ebay early last year (for 306.00, which seemed like a good price). The chassis is in a powder-coat grey, and the amp looked very clean. The basic modifications to the Super 70i were a three prong power cord and the removal of the 16 ohm speaker terminals. The amp played very well, but the bass was lacking (no offense, Frank), and since I have an Insight 440, the Super 70i didn't get much use.
The posts about the revision to the U70 and the UltraValve got me thinking about upgrading my Super 70i to the U70 (the UltraValve would be a little beyond my reach, at the moment, although I wouldn't hesitate to purchase an UltraValve if I had a second system), and I sent my Super 70i to Frank just a couple of weeks ago. I have the Salk HT2-TL speakers, and I think, albeit a 4 ohm load, that the U70 will not have any problem driving the speakers, which are slightly more efficient than the SongTower, IIRC.
I am looking forward to playing the U70 tomorrow night between an eye exam in the late afternoon, a business dinner, and spending time with my wife and kids. I think that it will be a long night (although there are always long nights after receiving a new piece of AVA gear).
Thank you, Frank, and I hope my Super 70i wasn't too much of a PITA to work on.
