Using the W-1 with the Icon
« on: 13 Jul 2009, 07:44 pm »
The instruction manual isn't too clear on settings (outside of explaining the phase control).  Do you set the W-1 on auto when using it with the ICON?  How about the level and cut off settings--is there an optimal setting for each or should I just play around to find what I like?

Thanks,

Dave

Using the W-1 with the Icon
Hi everybody,
I have received S-1s speakers and W-1 just a couple of days ago, and connected them with the Icon.
As I am not familiar at all with subs, I would be interested in knowing how the relative placement of speakers / sub affects phase & cutoff settings.
I am not using the Icon system in the classical desktop layout, but on a bookshelf with speakers at approx. 4 ft height and sub placed at a lower level.
Any advice will be much appreciated

OK, I've gone back to the ICON site and it says the cut off should be set to 80Hz when used with the S-1 so I will try that.  I'm going to guess that if the sub isn't too far from the speakers then you can probably leave the phase at zero--if not then check the "manual" that came with the W-1, it talks about distance and phase.

The phase compensate for the DIFFERENCE in distance of Icon to your listening position and distance of Sub to your position. If the difference is small, don't bother to adjust it.
