Completed AV-1 Pictures

Thought I would post some pictures of a pair of AV-1's that I finished a few weeks ago. Very pleased with how good they sound. Very clean sounding with excellent imaging and depth. Vocal reproduction on both male and female voices is also excellent. Not quite the equal to the Neo 1X or 2X,but still an excellent sounding speaker.

Nice work Ron. Those look great. Nice stands too.
What did you line the boxes with?? I'm going to try sheeps wool as recommended by a few builders.
I'm just finishing my boxes and getting them ready to paint to match the room colors.
Sand.....primer.....sand.....primer.... ...repeat as necessary!
These are going in the room that requires spouse approval.(WAF)
I just layed out the X-overs and will solder those together this weekend.
I can't wait the hear these babies.

Then build an A/V-3S for a centre channel.

I want to try veneering on my next pair. I hope they turn out 1/2 as good as yours.

Thanks  to all for your compliments. I enjoy building speakers. BTW - The AV-1's are for sale if anyone is interested.

Graham - I covered the sides, top, and back interior walls of my AV-1's with 2-1/2" convoluted acoustical foam from Parts Express. Also, the foam should be about 1-1/2 inches back from the front baffle board. Lightly fill the void area behind the woofer with Dacron poly-fil.Keep the poly-fil about an inch away from the back of the woofer magnet. You can try either long fiber wool or Acousti-Stuf,but I think the poly-fil works best in my opinion. Both Acousti-Stuf and wool seem to over damp the bass response.

I know that part of DIY is saving a few bucks, but I really recommend spending a few extras to get a quality deadening material.  Danny's No-Rez is one of the best.  Otherwise, make your own from a double layer of dense carpet pad with a layer of vinyl next to the cabinet.  But since one sheet would take care of the AV-1's, it would be a lot easier just to buy it from Danny.
Egg crate type foam comes in way down the list.

Scott - I agree with you that No-Rez is definately the best damping material to use and that is what I presently use in most of my recent speaker building projects. Since I had the convoluted foam left over from a previous project, I decided to use. Even though No-Rez would have been better, the AV-1's still sound very nice with the foam and Dacron.

I know what you mean.  I lined my Neo 2X's with Whispermat, which isn't as good as No Rez, but I already had it laying around.

Ron & Scott.    thanx for the advice on the box stuffing.
I might see how much it costs to ship No-Rez to Canada.,
It may be too expensive by the time I land it here.
I think it might be time to experiment with different products.
