 That is a good thought. I know you can get Baltic Birch in 1/8" thickness and if I recall, 1/16" is available.

 If you really want to go over the top, how about solid hardwood strips maybe 1/8" thick and 4" wide running horizontally for the side panels :drool:

 Bondo will not do the trick on MDF do to the differences in expansion.

This may be blasphemy, but what if you glued 1/8" plywood to the mdf and then veneered the plywood?

Yep, typically called "aircraft plywood" (I think because it is used for model aircraft) I used it for Rockets.
The thinnest you can buy is 1/64". But that stuff comes in small sizes, like 3" x 24" or some such. (it's been a while)

I know you can get aircraft ply in large sheets, but you might need to look to a hobby source.

Being inspired by Usher speakers I was going to attempt to do this as well when I built a pair of speakers.  However, I found it rather difficult to rip down the hardwood to a thickness that would work.  I am not that skillful I guess.

Better yet, ask Eric (Eargasm) about the extra thick veneer that he uses. I just can't see laminating plywood, and then turning around and veneering on top.  What about pre-veneered panels with inserts at the corners?

His best bet (and most economical) would be to glue down a sheet of 1/8" Masonite, and then veneer over that. It'll increase the width of the enclosure slightly, but it'll guarantee a flat surface to veneer over.
