Pair of Veravox's on OB
« on: 24 Jun 2009, 07:00 pm »
I have 4 (two pairs) of Veravox 5S being used at the moment in a 21L Bipole speaker, and was thinking of using them on OB, what could i use them for?

I cant have them both running full range (combing) , and dont really want a MTM as it will cross too low to take advantage of the full rangers.

Any ideas?

With their Xmax of +/- 1 mm, Sd of only 79 cm? and their Qts=0.28 you should not try to use them below 500 Hz. With that in mind a baffle of 30 cm width would be sufficient. Since the efficiency of the 5S is not demanding, many woofers could give a good bass extension.

Thanks, any idea's on how to use the two? use one rolled off in a 1.5 way, or try a MTM etc...?

He has two pairs (which should use in a MTM config, IMO): do you think he still needs to cross so high?

PS: I'm dying for the wait for my woofers, new baffles and sub amp!

Telstar,
compared to your Hemp FR8C the Veravox 5S can only move a fifth of air volume. Two of them would still move less than half.

The Veravox 5S has been designed as a horn driver, but could make an excellent midrange-and-above driver in an open baffle. It is very well behaved up to 8 kHz, and it would be a pity to roll it off at 2-3 kHz, which a MTM configuration probably would demand.

To me this whole project looks like welding two Porsche 911 together to get a 4WD Cayenne!
Not my cup of tea  :(
