Why is the Hole not in the center

Is there some reason you turn up with lp's that the hole is not in the center. I picked up a nice clean copy of Iron butterfly live and my tonearm on my scout must be swinging back and forth a good 1/16 of an inch if not more and i can hear when it dips in towards the center and starts out. Its not the only lp that i own that suffers from that what up with that. Can't be that frigin hard to get the hole in the center  :duh:

It must have been a little difficult, because it was a fairly common problem. The Nakamichi is the only turntable that I can recall that addressed it, though.

CDs suffer from the same fate, but to a much lesser degree and it doesn't affect pitch as it does with a vinyl disc.

Hey!

Well, I don't think any of them are perfectly centered :? Some are more sever than other.

Yeah, I know the feeling when getting a copy with this problem. This one problem that we have to live with if you like vinyl.

Take care,

I think on some tables with sticky mats it is possible to remove the spindle and center the record by eye, but it's probably easier to find a Nakamichi!
here's some more on it: http://www.positive-feedback.com/Issue33/tx1000.htm
and an illustration of the mechanism that did the trick:

I don'tthink we will be buying one of those in the near future, can't imagine what one of those would run you. If you could find a used one. They sold new for $8k  but what a nice looking turntable

Since i only paid $3 for the LP i will just pick up another copy

That's no more than likely   true but but most of them don't look like a boat in a storm rocking back anfd forth. I don't know how much the effect is magnified by the unipivot on my vpi scout
