Streaming music wireless from Macbook to icon amp.

Hi,

I am trying to figure out a way to wirelessly stream DIGITAL music from a Macbook to an Icon desktop amplifier.

Apple's airport express station gets my close - however their recommended digital output cable terminates into a regular mini-audio connector, which I think will not activate my icon's DAC circuit.

Has anyone had success doing this ?

The Airport Express has a mini-toslink digital output. If your amp has a standard toslink input, you'll need a mini-toslink to toslink cable or adapter. Here's an example.

The Icon doesnt have any digital inputs, but the USB.
So, my bet is that something else has to do the D/A, and then you input ananlog signal into the Icon.

Airport express to dac via toslink cable or use 1/8 " to rca cable to amp.
The airport express out is both mini tosllink and 1/8" analog out - same as the mac mini.

Thanks guys ... I guess ICON DAC + Wireless isn't possible - will feed it an analog signal!

Sure you can using a mac mini or net book with wifi.

If you wait for a few more months, we are working on cool wireless technology.
How about sending CD quality or better audio from Mac or PC (equipped with 802.11n) directly to a wireless receiver small enough to connect to the back of Icon for $99? No transmitter is necessary. This is just a small piece of a big wireless audio network we are planning. That's all I can say for now.

Certainly be fascinated to see how that one works out.

Could you also do it with a plugin bluetooth adapter? Obviously the quality wouldn't be as good though.

Since this will be much better than the Apple version which only supports itunes wirelessly, NuForce should supplant Apple as your favorite company when they deliver this product.
