.... I recently saw B&H and Adorama both raise prices about $40 on the D90 body.... I guess sales still exceed supply, so it's pretty simple to understand that, but  it's still an expensive luxury item in a a bad economy.  I can wait :)

Hey!

I think it is more likely have to do with the ¥ vs. $ exchange rate.

I noticed the price increase with almost every camera brands. I recently bought a macro lens a few months ago and now the lens is about $40 more  :o Sadly there are other lenses that I want and they are will now cost more than just a few months ago :?

As for the DSLR bodies, true that price might went up a bit but it will come down over time somewhat... in a very pretty short time these days.

Take care,

Yeah, I saw it on most all cameras too, I'm just more closely watching the D90 since it's my target product.  I do not see these increase at Amazon or J&R, but I do at B&H and Adorama.  Perhaps the smaller etailers cannot withstand the currency fluctuations as much.

Hey!

It could be that those store like J&R still have the old stock that they got before the price increase  so they can still sell them at the old price... maybe?  :D

But with DSLR if you are going to wait for the price to drop significantly than it is likely that the new model will be release soon. By than you will likely want the new model and if again you are going to wait for the price to drop than you will have to wait and the cycle begin again.

Of course I don't think you should buy a just released one but most of the time the price will stabilized after just a few month until it about to be replace by a new model. So, if you are going to use it than just by it.

   Anyway, good luck :D

Take care,

Good luck with that....  I'll stick to authorized resellers with a full US warranty myself.  I've had my share of warranty claims on other electronics in the past, so I consider it a valuable part of the purchase price.  These new DLSRs are essentially computers, so things can/will go wrong.

I know the lower price is tempting and I hope it works out for you.

Well, to come back on this topic. We canceled the order with that company. After 3 weeks they had not charged the PP account.  I found a better deal and got a whole lot more. A D60 body, 18-55 lens, 55-200 lens and much more. The total was 769.00. It is a US model and comes with all the warranties. I am very happy with it and feel better knowing I protected and not getting a gray market item.

To also touch upon pricing. We had looked into a buying our camera from a local dealer. What a joke! They wanted 600.00 for the D60 body and 300.00 for the 18-55 lens. That is not a small 10% mark up.

OP here - I finally picked up a D90 + 16-85mm VR Lens

JR.com offered up a refurb body for $699, w/ 90 day warranty - so I grabbed one.  The first body had an issue with the on/off switch not turning the camera off, so I had JR exchange it. the exchange was painless and the 2nd one works fine.

also got  UV filter, books, & extra batteries. On my way...

Good to hear Rich.  I've been waffling around picking up a DSLR for a while now and a refurb D90 is one of the contenders on my list.

The J&R price was the lowest I have seen,, beating Adorama by $100.  But, I'm sure, now that I bought a DSLR, all the prices will drop :)
