Gee, I wonder where he got the idea for this?

I think the UFO is superior.  Using it with a needle in the groove is the best way to ensure your table is up to snuff.

The copy cat product.........well he should be ashamed!

both of these are awesome, but wery expensive.  i have achieved the same results using a simple paper strobe disc and a tiny fluorescent bulb; i placed the disc under my clamp and cued up an album (and my keith monks record sweeper), so i could adjust my motor's speed whilst record was in play.  while decidedly lo-tech, it worked fine.

i am not sure who has been copy-catting who, here; these have been around for a while.  and, i have no idea which one was made first.  personally, if i had the cash to spend on a tweak like this, i really like this one; (the first one i ever saw, a couple years back), it yust looks so cool:

 it sells for ~$400 delivered.

kuzma also makes one, for ~$400.

but, the lys take the prize for coolness, imo...

i find your comment about the site's language skills and your tag line a bit ironic...

Hey Jim.....Shake it once to change speed....

Hell that's gotta give you confidence in your strobe device......don't like the results....just give it a shake or two.....   :icon_lol:

I think the UFO is cool!  However I am banking on a motor controller!  Any news on that front?

Cheers!

You know I never understood how the UFO worked or how it was to be used.  That is until I read the description on the link doug provided.

You might want to explain this on your site Jim.  It will help the uninformed like myself to understand why you would need or want one.

good thing i have a sense of humour!   8)

ps - ever notice how email can distort meaning; sometimes stuff in print isn't as funny as one might have thought when typing it?

Indeed! in my head it was pretty funny - out in cyberspace - questionable! I have spent a lot of time abroad, including a year in Asia - mistranslations have always been a great source of good-natured amusement for my wife and I. The Japanese and Chinese in particular have a real knack for some off the wall translations! Anyways, sorry to hijack the Strobe-clamp thread! :nono:

Actually, the UFO does not work like the LYS.  The latter blinks such that the LEDs themselves appear to stand still.  In the UFO, it's the dot pattern printed on the bottom skirt that is the indicator (appear still).  The LEDs always appear to move, never stop in space like the LYS.  That way, I use one strobe frequency for all three record speeds.
