The garage turntable is up and running!

I thought some would like to see how I built a wall shelf for my table out in the garage, It's nothin' fancy but you can jump and shout and pound all you want and this thing ain't moving. I lucked out with the chain lenghts otherwise I really should have used some small turnbuckles.

Why not put it on the slab floor?

jpq- no room on the floor as we have very high density in the garage. Had to go on the wall (for safety too).

orthobiz- What else do you want to see, a better side view?

I had a pair of Audioengine2's in the garage last summer (they're in the basement surrounding my iMac right now), ran an iPod into them. Simple but effective.

I was curious what speakers, amplification you're running. The concept of changing the oil and spinning vinyl boggles my mind. Hey, dirty hands...maybe that's why records are black.

So, I thought maybe a pic of the system.

OK, Here is the system:

The Receiver is a vintage Marantz 2220B in a real nice Walnut cabinet. 20 watt RMS per channel.
The speakers are Paradigm Atoms. A perfect match to the Marantz.
The Turntable is a semi-automatic direct drive Technics SL-Q2 with end of play return and auto-shut off. This is a must have for the garage environment.
The cartridge is a Grado Green, Longhorned.
The CD player is a Sony Walkman.

Of course, having a nice system in the garage, demands responsibility. It is my total pet peeve and is illegal in my town to play your shit ass music so loud that I can hear it. I have my own crap to listen to, none from you, thanks.

Some dope thought he was going to fly his gas powered RC airplane in my backyard, until the cops showed up. You want to make noise, go out in the country.

Unfortunately, I have another turntable to build (from scratch) and this crap has taken up all the countertop, plus is in the risk of damage zone. Perhaps I need a new chop saw and drill press area. Damn garage is too small.

Quite frankly, I admire your workspace. I have a beautiful one room log cabin that I work in, but it is a MESS!

Thanks, Wayner. My first receiver was a 2230.
Bought my daughter Atoms this past Christmas,
definitely appealed to the wife, too!

Nice and neat for a garage Wayner, although I'm a little nervous with that can of gasoline above your tt !

Well, I see what you mean. The can of gas has been there for 15 years. But maybe I should move it before I have an oops on the turntable, like knocking the can over on it.

Can't get anything by you guys!

If its been there for 15 years it might start leaking onto the turntable, thereby dissolving the bearing grease, thereby increasing the noise factor. Either that or you'll be playing "Free Bird" one day and the whole thing will burst into flames from all that kick assed guitar licks.  :guitar: I think I see some charcoal lighter fluid on that shelf too.  :flame:

I see you've kept your DIY Rigid record cleaning vacuum close by also. Good boy.

Bob,

I don't use the Ridgid shop vac on the records, they might get sucked up! I'll move the charcoal lighter too....Gee.

Thanks Wayner!  A garage system is a great idea.  It will give me someplace to set up some of my spare gear....which gets it out of the back of a closet and out of the "other half's" purview :).  I probably won't put a TT out there, but who knows.
