« on: 15 Apr 2009, 08:15 am »
Hi all,
Any ideas on how to remotely controlling Foobar 8.3 running on PC with an itouch ?   I assum Foobar is still the best sound qty player with SRC upsampler for 24/96 upsampling on PC ?

Thanks.

Hi Oris98.  I use a program called Xlobby as described in the post below.

Jim,

I think the ASUS option does look appealing, as long as you can run an ethernet connection to it.  How do you control it?  Wirelessly, from another laptop?

I notice that they've also released the Asus EEE Top, which packages the EEE box with a touchscreen monitor.  I think that would make a pretty sweet little transport, sitting next to a USB DAC.

Chad

My PC sits in the basement, I was able to connect it in the office (where my 2 channel system resides) with a 16" USB cable, not ideal but it keeps the PC out of the listening space.  I run the unit headless from the office using a program called Xlobby which has a thin client running on my iPaq PDA.  Here are a few pics of the iPaq used as a remote:

Sorry about the poor quality of the pics, I'm not much of a photographer.  This gives you an idea of what can be done with Xlobby.  Best of all, older versions are still freeware.

I am runnng Foobar 2K with Asio4all on an XP Pro machine, 3G, 1 gig of Ram.

Hope this gives you some ideas with regard to being able to run your machine headless.  BTW, you can program the hard buttons to control different things as well.

Best,
Ed

Thanks for the reply Ed !  How do you use Xlobby with Foobar2K ?   Foobar2K has a very basic user interface (worse one as far as user interface go),  is Xlobby be able to mask a nice face over with a thin client running on the Ipaq and some how instruct Foobar2k to change the playlist at the background ?  Thanks again..

This is basically correct, Xlobby does use a thin client.  There area couple of dll's that link Xlobby and Foobar, the rest of the setup is done in Xlobby.  There is a bit of a learning curve but there is a good community for support.  I have been using Xlobby for about 7(?) years.  When it started it was freeware, it has now been sold to Calrad but the freeware version is still available.  Here are a couple of links:

BTW, I also use this for my HT, here is a link to a few screenshots:

:duh:   That was in your opening post and I just breezed right by it, sorry.  I know it works in windows and windows mobile, there is a small file (2 actually) that must be loaded.  I am afraid this version of Xlobby predates the itouch.  I just searched the Xlobby website and didnt see any entries about the iTouch.  Someone has developed an iPhone skin but  believe that simply mimics the look of the iPhone user interface.

Sorry, I completely blew this one.

Best,
Ed
