Help Please
« on: 14 Apr 2009, 12:18 am »
:o Soo...our speaker project is due next week but our group has no clue where to start on the wiring. Our woofer is an aluminum 6.5" DA175-8 and our tweeter is VIFA D25AG-35-06. The box dimensions are 8x9.5x19.
We still to mount the speakers, do all the wiring, etc, and draw a schematic diagram. Any help would be much appreciated! Thank you!

etc...

Give a man a loudspeaker, he'll enjoy tunes until it breaks.
Teach a man to make his own loudspeaker, he'll enjoy DIY audio for a lifetime.

This might help too, especially the help section.

1) Get those drivers mounted in their boxes and hooked up.

2) Then take them to school and measure them with the Clio system that you were given.

3) Post the measured responses. Then we can give more advice.

4) Try putting various parts in the signal path to learn what they do and how they effect the signal.

5) Post the measured responses with your network that you came up with and we can then give you even more advice on how to improve it.

The FR graphs for both drivers are available online.  See http://www.tymphany.com/files/products/pdf/D25AG-35-06.pdf
The tweeter FS is 850Hz, so from 2K to 2.5KHz with a second order crossover should work.

The woofer can be seen at http://www.parts-express.com/pdf/295-335s.pdf.  It has pretty major breakup problems above 5KHz. However, the dip at around 1800Hz might be useful if you cross around 2K. Plug in your info into a 2nd order crossover program- see http://www.diyaudioandvideo.com/Calculator/XOver/
Choose a second order (try a Butterworth for example) in the crossover type box.  It will give you a theoretical x over design that will be a starting place and then tweak it with the CLIO computer unit that will be available.
