Used HT3 market

So who thinks the used HT3 market is going to be huge this summer after the "HT4" is shown at the upcoming event? *raises hand quietly*

I have no doubt that some HT3 owners will upgrade.  However, given the expense to upgrade, the high level of satisfaction of HT3 owners and the state of the economy, I would not count on a flood of used HT3 speakers hitting the market this summer.  Most buyers will want to hear the HT4 before committing and opportunities to listen to the HT4 will be limited for some time.  Also the build time after placing an order for the HT4 may cause some delay in turnover of HT3 speakers.

I doubt that there will be a huge number of people who upgrade, but this is one time where I would love to be wrong.

I suspect that the cost of the HT4's will be prohibitive for most people even after selling their HT3's. For most of us, the HT3's are at the maximimum (or over the max) of what we can afford. The HT3's give people a taste of the ultimate speaker at a very fair price. The HT4's will give you the ultimate speaker at an ultimate speaker price (without being a complete rip off).

I know at least a few HT3's will become available after the HT4 comes out. This might be an opportunity for someone to buy the HT3 for a cheap price.

$10k is not an "ultimate speaker price". My guess is that the majority of $10k floorstanders on the market won't even match HT3 in terms of transparency and accuracy.

Since Jim hasn't set prices yet, let's not start quoting prices and making assumptions.

As an HT3 owner, I would love to hear "the beast"/HT4 but won't be selling my HT3s anytime soon, no matter how good the new kings of the Salk line sound.  As was stated before, cost is prohibitive, even the HT3s were way over my intended budget.  If I hit the lottery or something I would no doubt be placing an order, but even then I wouldn't be selling my HT3s...

So, yeah I think we will be seeing a few HT3s hitting the used market, once the beast is unleashed on the world, but I don't think there will be an overwhelming amount of current owners making the switch.  I think that we might be seeing several used $10G+ speakers from other manufacturers hitting the market though.

well, I already snagged someone here's V3's and monster center for my HT setup as they are going with the HT4 upgrade.

quite happy with my ht3's in my two channel setup - I'll switch houses before I switch speakers.

absolutely no need to upgrade!
well, my speakers anyway.

Actually after owning salks I've upgraded my analog rig substaintally, my cd player, wires, vibration, amp and pre
I am looking to do a major upgrade of my pre - cause I know the salks will show it and their own character in all it's glory
