This is an easy question that i can't seem to wrap my head around. Hope someone can help,

I want to hook up a subwoofer to my Creek 4330. Can i just plug it in from the pre amp outputs? Does it need a return signal?

thanks for the help

Hi Glenn.

Yes, you can hook up a powered subwoofer to your integrated amp using the preouts. If the sub has 2 line level RCA inpouts, just use those. Some newer subs have a single line level RCA input, somtiomes labled "LFE". In this case, get an adaptor with 2 female RCAs on one end and a single male RCA on the other end. Parts Express carries these adaptors.

Use the volume, crossover and phase controls on the sub for bass managemant.

A tape monitor output does not function the same as a pre-out.  The output on a pre-out is controlled by the volume on the preamp.  The tape monitor output is a constant, unchangeable output. . . not effected by the volume on the pre.

There may be more to this.  Also, anyone correct me if I'm wrong. . .but this is my understanding.  I've never used a tape out, only pre-outs.

Nope, you're right, tape monitor jacks will not work, they don't track the volume control, but are fixed output. ACI (I've bought there fine subs) has some diagrams on there website that show various ways of hooking up subs
