Audioholics has just published its shootout comparison of four floorstanding speakers in the $1500 to $2000 price range.  One of the speakers in the shootout was of course the SongTower QWT.  The AH people made a good effort to run their comparison in a blinded randomized manner.  The STs fared very well among the other 3 speakers.  Read the details:

The results are certainly gratifying--particularly since the testing was blinded.  It's a shame only 4 companies came through with speakers, though.  Still, it was great to see a one-on-one comparison with Dali.

This was a very well done review process.  I am impressed by the methodology, and of course with the winning speaker too.

Best regards,

Given my time and experience with the SongTowers, I can't say I am surprised by the results.  I really love my SongTowers in my dedicated HT setup.

Here is part of the last paragraph from the Facilitator Thoughts and Conclusion section by the shootout organizer Tom Andry:

Quote
"If I were shopping for speakers, I'd take a look at this shootout and read carefully through the comments. I'd look at the pictures of the speakers. I'd think about how my room matches the shootout room. I'd re-read the original reviews. I'd try to keep in mind my personal sound preferences and view the descriptors in that light. Most of all, I'd go out there and listen to everything I could. And then I'd buy the Salks. But that's just me."

Congrats Jim and Dennis.

"Clint took the DALIs home with him and immediately noted that they didn't sound as good. Of course, he knew this would happen because of the location he was forced to place them in (around a TV that is placed on a stand in a corner) and is working to optimize placement."

That sounds like my setup with my STs ....and they kicked ass right from the get go

The Salks were so good they made the other speakers sound better.  Terms the listeners used to describe the other speaker in the blind tests vs. the Salks were more forgiving.

A pair of Salk Speakers just makes your day better.

edit:  They absolutely killed the other speakers in the visual and build categories too. :thumb:

I agree with the shootout there was nothing in the 2k range I auditioned that could touch the ST.

There are plenty of designs that compete with the ST's.  You've just gotta search a bit further than Infinity and Dali's Lektor series to find them.  That said, the SongTower's are are damn fine speakers for the buck and deserve the accolades they've received.

Congrats!!

The SongTowers are the 'Perfect Storm' and are very deserved of winning a shootout, there are many other speakers that are ok or good....but the overall combination of build quality, driver selection, crossover design all incorporated in this QWT design are just plain awesome!

Kudos!
